Who wants to be an entrepreneur?

© 2008 by Peter Allan C. Mariano
http://links2prosperity.synthasite.com

No, this is not another reality game show. This is just my response to the ongoing economic crisis that the world is facing right now. With more and more people losing their jobs (and in the US – losing their homes to foreclosures) it would seem a wise decision to become an entrepreneur. I have made that decision a few months ago when I availed of the voluntary resignation program that my company was offering. The amount I got was not that much, but it was enough to sustain me for a while as I set-up my home business.

It was a struggle at the beginning and the returns were not that much compared to what I was getting when I was working. However, my corporate work was really taking a toll on me and my health, and I found myself drifting farther away from my family. Now that my home based business is starting to pick up, I was getting reassurances that I have made the right decision. I am using my passion for writing and arts in my business, and the time I spent with my family in their happy moments is priceless.

Browsing the internet, you can find stories of remarkable entrepreneurial spirit from simple folks and individuals. I am not talking about big-time business celebrities, but I’m referring to ordinary people like you and me who had nothing else but their drive to succeed. Take Jared Metz for example. He is young but he is making waves in New York helping businesses get the much needed financing to make their projects flourish. There are more stories out there and I will try to post them here as much as I can.

Now, if what I described above has got you thinking or contemplating of quitting your job and becoming an entrepreneur like Jared Metz, you should ask yourself the following questions first:

a) Are you ready for much bigger challenges than what corporate life is currently giving you?

Working for a company means responsibilities related to your job, but such responsibilities are limited to your job function – and your pay grade. As an entrepreneur, your scope of responsibilities widens and you have to get involved with all aspects of the job.

b) Do you feel that your life is unbalanced right now?

If you spend 12 or more hours at work, and then all your remaining time (and even weekends) is spent on commuting and trying to catch some sleep – then you definitely lack balance in your life. Take time to contemplate what your priorities in life are.

c) Do you feel that your current job is not your destiny, and that you have lost your passion in life?

You got the talent but you end up working in a call center. You feel that you have wasted that talent in a job that pays but lacks the fuel to drive your passion. It would probably be time to consider leaving that job and build a business based on your passion. This is what Jared Metz did when he used his drive and talent for deal making and negotiation.

My advice to you if you got that entrepreneurial itch is to sleep on it for a few days. It might go away after a few nights’ rest. But if the drive is still there, gnawing at your insides, then you have to stop and reconsider. Do your research and learn from people, and you might get your answers.

That’s better than entering a reality game show.

Developing Everyday Ideas into Innovative Breakthroughs

Since the dawn of the modern age, it has always been the belief of the masses that the economy of a country benefits only the wealthy, and the government should do something about this. Karl Marx embraced this idea in his teachings, and the people believed in these persistent ideas that power and wealth should be taken from the rich and given to the poor. We have seen how ineffective this ideology is. The Soviet Union is no more, China and Vietnam are opening their doors to capitalism, and the world is heading into a new era of innovative products and marketing methods.

Reading and studying about how the richest people in the world gained their wealth will reveal to us that only a fraction of these wealthy individuals and families got their riches through inheritance. Some had the advantage of education or influence but most started out from scratch and worked their way up to fortune. What was unique about these individuals was how they turned everyday experiences into innovative fortune-generating opportunities.

Mark Hughes devoted his life in the development of weight loss products. What spurned him on was the death of his mother, JoAnn Hughes who died through her disastrous experimentations to lose weight. Finding the right ideas and products, Mark founded Herbalife in 1980 and started selling weight loss and nutrition products right out of the trunk of his car. Now, the company he started has become a global entity growing exponentially every year with millions of satisfied customers worldwide.

In a similar manner, Richard DeVos and Jay van Andel started Amway in their basements after failures running a drive-in restaurant. Now, the influence of these billionaires has reached several countries worldwide through these innovative products. It would be a rarity indeed, if you do not know Bill Gates, a Harvard dropout who went on to co-find Microsoft Corporation. He earned billions developing products and technologies, some of which may be found right there in the personal computers of people reading this article.

These successes are not isolated to individuals but to remarkable families as well. In 1950, the Walton family lost a lease on a local dime store. This did not stop them from pursuing their dreams and establishing the multi-billion Wal-Mart chains. The Mars family where in financial trouble and was close to bankruptcy when they developed the recipe for the Milky Way chocolate bar. The rest is history (pardon the pause, as I take a bite out of my Milk… Ooops! Wife’s coming! Gotta hide these…..! )

Stories like these come to life because of the drive and creativity of these individuals in turning ideas into wonderful moneymaking innovations. Their success was based on serving the consumers and in finding solutions to problems of the community that existing products and services cannot provide.

How can we, as ordinary people, generate the same kind of ideas that these successful people had?

The key element is to learn how to listen and observe your surroundings. If you have transformed your psyche from a mindless drifter to an idea-hunting entrepreneurial mindset, tons of ideas can come your way – and some of this might be the next multi-billion dollar thing. Reading books and magazines on and off the net can take you places and feed your imagination. Browse through websites, news and forums and learn what the current needs of the community are. There are a lot of examples in the web that you can discover. Just like this website for swimming pools that I just came across. They call themselves Shasta Pools and Spas.

Everyone is going “GREEN” just like the Incredible Hulk. Kidding aside, people are looking for products and services that are more environmentally sensitive. Aside from their really cool designs I never imagined pools could have, Shasta Pools are also going green and has started use of the most energy efficient pool equipments for those who are environmentally conscious. Such innovations are a proactive response to the needs, and trends, the people want.

On my next article, I will discuss more regarding how to use insights, intelligent hunches, intuition and what-have-you in looking for that next big hit. So stay tuned!

The Key to Your Success

Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
www.PluginProfitSite.com

In regard to making money on the Internet, everyone is always looking for the quick fix. They want to sign up for a program, place an advertisement, and make hundreds or thousands of dollars instantly. While this may be possible depending on your circumstances, the most direct and guaranteed path to success onthe Internet is to stick with the fundamentals.

A friend of mine who is an athletic coach for kids in the city where I live reminded me of this lesson. This guy is actually so passionate about kids and athletics that he coaches 4 different sports: basketball, soccer, baseball and football. Of course, he has a kid of his own on each team. But what is remarkable about this guy is the results he gets with his teams.

He was recruited to coach the 8th grade football team where his children go to school. After 27 years of losing seasons in a row, the first year my friend became the head coach the team won the district championship and repeated their championship run the following year. This past weekend he coached 12 different games and won all 12 of them. As you can tell, this guy is extremely dedicated.

But the funny thing is that he and the kids he coaches are not totally hung up on winning. If they lose a game, they feel equally good about themselves as they would if they had won. What matters most to them is how well they played and lived up to their potential as a team.

The real question is how my friend's teams continually perform on such a high level and beat nearly anyone they play even though they are often smaller and younger than their competitors. I asked this question to my friend the other day and he told me that it's all in the fundamentals.

In his practices, all he works on with his kids is keeping a positive mindset and practicing the fundamentals. He told me that his teams never scrimmage or strategize about upcoming games during practice. They simply work hard on all the fundamentals of whatever particular sport they are playing and do so more than any other team they play. This constant practice and improvement of the fundamentals is what allows his teams to progress faster than his competitors. While most other teams get caught up with how to win, out-strategize, be stronger than and intimidate their opponents, my friend's team is just so good at the basics that they blow everyone out of the water when game day arrives.

This got me thinking about my own Internet business and why I've
been able to succeed on such a high level while most others who
have tried to do what I do have failed. The answer is not really
surprising.

Most people who try to build a successful Internet home business are looking for the quick fix. They want it to work IMMEDIATELY and so they usually fall prey to business opportunities that promise to help them get rich overnight and advertising scams that promise to deliver thousands of hungry prospects to their website in the next 24 hours. Of course, these opportunistic schemes are really just geared to steal people's hard earned money. You see, when someone is desperate and looking for an INSTANT solution, they will often be taken advantage of and their chances for success with an Internet home business are slim to none.

However, while there are thousands of business opportunities on the Internet and millions of different ways to advertise and promote your website, I personally practice the fundamentals in my Internet home business. I do this by sticking with the business opportunities I've joined for the long haul and promoting my website consistently with simple, affordable and easily maintained Internet marketing techniques.

In fact, one of the techniques that works best for me is writing articles like this one and getting them published on other people's websites using article syndication tools and software found online.

By writing articles and getting them published on other websites online using powerful tools like those mentioned above, I'm able to get my name and website address in front of thousands of people without paying a dime in advertising. Of course, the key to this strategy is that I write and distribute articles consistently in this way. It's one of those "fundamentals" that doesn't cost anything but a little time and effort. Fact is, it's this price of time and effort that most people are unwilling to pay. They'll gladly part with hundreds or even thousands of dollars, but ask them to do a little hard work and they say "No way."

It's this understanding that can separate you from the pack. If you are willing to practice the fundamentals of your business faithfully and consistently, you will be destined to succeed on a high level. But if you can't and you're only looking for the quick fix, you have already lost the game before you even set foot on the field.

Even pros like me practice the fundamentals every day. In fact, especially pros like me practice the fundamentals. The moment I stop practicing the fundamentals is the moment I stop being a pro. Think about this carefully and then renew YOUR commitment to the fundamentals of your Internet home business today. Do this and you will soar past your competition.

Advertising Your Home Business on a Budget

Advertising Your Home Business on a Budget
Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy

When you are starting out in a new home business and no one knows who you are, one of the greatest challenges you will face is how to drum up new business.
If there were not people in your community or marketplace that you knew who needed your products or services, you probably would not have started your business to begin with. But, once you have talked to those who you personally knew who needed your what you offer, then your next task is to find others who will help keep your doors open.

Many people know that they must turn to advertising at some point in the future, but they hope that day will be long down the road. For some, this utopian concept will come to fruition. But for the rest of us in the real world, we must come up with creative solutions for meeting our home business advertising needs while working within our budget.

Most people have a misconception about having to spend lots of money in order to advertise their home business. When you start out, you honestly will not have much money available for advertising, and if you do, you should still spend it wisely.

Before you jump headfirst into the world of advertising, let me share some of the lessons I have learned concerning this most important topic.

LESSON #1

It does not have to cost an arm and a leg to advertise your home business, unless you fail to plan and fail to test.

As much as is possible, you should always test your advertising. If you jump in and start dumping tons of money in to advertising without first testing your advertising, you might find yourself broke and without sales at the end of the road. Most people who commit this error write off their failure on the home business they chose or the economy or any of a hundred other excuses. But, if they are unwilling to take responsibility for their mistake, they will never learn from their mistake. Don`t let this be you.

LESSON #2

All testing should be done in blocks. If you begin to advertise simultaneously in newspapers, radio and television, how will you know which advertising is bringing people to your cash register? You won`t. All you will know that something might be working, but you will not know what is actually doing the trick.

Even if you tell people in your advertising to tell you how they found you, my experience shows that fewer than 10% of the people ever will tell you anything --- and those people who do may not even get the facts straight! You cannot rely on your customers to tell you what advertising is working for your home business. You must put in the extra effort to know for yourself.

LESSON #3

Only when you have a proven and solid advertising portfolio should you venture to drop big bucks in an advertising campaign. Even then, you should be careful to keep further measurements to determine how much the maximum advantage of an ad would be. Sometimes you might be able to reach ten times as many people, but depending on the kind of media and other factors, the additional exposure will only generate twice as many sales. Keep your eye attuned to situations like this to get the most from your advertising dollars.

LESSON #4

As Lesson #3 illustrates, sometimes your best advertising investment may actually cost you less money. When you are first starting out, whether you are running a home business or a business outside of your home, you need to be able to get people talking and thinking about your business.

If you are busy testing ads in media`s such as the newspaper, magazines, radio, and television, you need to learn ways of promoting your business that do not require large cash expenditures. A few examples are:

· Word of Mouth
· Business Cards
· Press Releases
· Non-Primetime Ads on Radio and Television

Here is more information about each type of low-cost advertising:

WORD OF MOUTH

This of course is the cheapest kind of advertising on the planet --- it does not cost you anything. Ask your customers if they know anyone who could also use your products or services. When they are happy with your offerings and service, they will be willing to tell you whom you can contact, and they will pass the word for you.

BUSINESS CARDS

You can usually pick up 500 business cards for about $20. When you do, hand them out. Do not give more than a couple of cards to each person. If they need more cards from you, they will ask.

Some people are known to network with others on a regular basis. Some of these people are also known to be always looking for an extra few bucks. With these people, you can suggest to them that if they write their name on the back of one of your business cards and the card is presented to you, then you will pay a referral fee to them. You do not have to offer much --- sometimes one dollar is enough. Look at your home business and your offerings and decide how much would be a good referral fee.

PRESS RELEASES

Press Releases are a good source for generating news about your home business. The business editor at your local newspaper is always on the lookout for a good business story to fill the business news section of the newspaper.

Of course, the business editor understands the economics of running a paper and is more inclined to run your story if you buy advertising in his/her publication, but will still print stories for special events and openings.

The important thing to remember about Press Releases is that it must be constructed in the form of a news story. Even if you are a sole proprietorship, quotes from you should be written in a third person format: John Doe said, "Your quote here."

A Press Release should pack the most important information at the beginning of the copy, and leave extra details towards the end.

You should always provide the reporter who gets the task a simple and easy way for him/her to contact you directly. Often the reporter will want to contact you to get details that will enhance their take on your story.

NON-PRIMETIME ADS ON RADIO AND TELEVISION

Believe it or not, some of the best rates for radio and television are on the overnight and non-primetime venues. These target times are not a total waste as they can easily keep the infomercial people in business.

These off-hours are just less populated than the primetime hours.

Don`t be afraid to check your local radio and television rates for non-primetime hours to see what bargains may exist. With television, primetime is 7pm to 10pm. With radio, primetime is 8am to 5pm. This sure leaves a whole lot of hours available to advertise your home business at discount rates!

IN CONCLUSION

When it comes down to it, there is a lot to understand about advertising, but when you have the basic knowledge down pat, everything will fall into place and bring more dollars to your bank account.

McCain or Obama... Who won the debate?

Dear Friends;

I don't know the answer to that question. That's a decision each of us must make ourselves.

What I do know is that the primary responsibility of our own future financial success or failure also rests upon our own shoulders.

P.S. Here's another helpful tip to consider in the face of global market turmoil: "Buy when everyone else is selling and hold until everyone else is buying. This is not merely a catchy slogan. It is the very essence of successful investment." - J. Paul Getty - At the time of his death, he was the richest man in the world.

Explode Your Business With Viral Marketing!

by Justin Blake, CEO ViralShock.com
http://www.viralshock.com/members/petermariano/

Creativity.

This is one virtue a site must possess to lead the race in the ruthless competition in the Internet based business. With so much competition and rivalry going on, every method of marketing must be employed and utilized.

It doesn’t matter if you have a killer product or a fantastically designed website, if people don’t know that you exist, it doesn’t matter, and you are not going to make it big. Worst of all, you business could just get killed.

While there are so many methods and schemes used by so many e-commerce sites today, there are still some of those that can help you with an extra boost in the popularity ratings. One of these is the so called Viral Marketing.

While the term Viral easily depicts a virus, a word very much dreaded by all computer owners, it is not what it seems. You do not actually use a computer virus to spread your business; on the contrary it just might kill you. Everyone has had enough of all those pop up ads and spyware.

Viral Marketing Overview

Viral Marketing also known otherwise as Viral Advertising is a marketing technique used to build the public awareness of one’s product or company. They use many forms of media to reach out to the public without actually promoting the product by riding on in other forms of addictive means that could get a person hooked and be obliged or amused to actually pass it on, with the product or company advertisement along with it.

In a nutshell, companies ride on the idea that if people like the content of a media they will pass it on to their friends and family. They sponsor the certain media, such as a cool flash game, funny video, amusing story and such, which one may pass on to another with the company brand or logo or the products description or any other content to help promote the company or its product.

Viral marketing has become a popular means of advertising and marketing because they are relatively low cost. To avoid being tagged as spam mail, viral marketing counts on the eagerness of one person to pas on the product. If a person sees the name of the person they know as the sender, they won’t block it and open it as well.

Many companies offer incentives such as discounts and rebates when they help in spreading their viral marketing. They rely on the number of recipients a viral marketing gets from one person in determining the amount or number of incentive they can be attributed with.

Using Viral Marketing to your advantage

The main and foremost advantage of viral marketing is that you get a lot of publicity and public awareness about your site and your company. You get to generate a flow of traffic that are potential customers. With a little ingenuity and imagination, plus some incentives or prizes, you can reach out to a great number of people and announce your existence.

Most sites and companies are catching on to the effectiveness of Viral Marketing and Advertising. Not using it could kill your business. Along with other schemes and methods in promoting your site, like Search Engine Optimization and such, viral marketing could easily push you ahead in the rating games.

Viral Marketing could be a sneaky way to get people to know about you and your company. You get them to pass your advertisement along. They are also very low cost that not investing in it could be downright a business suicide. All it takes is a great idea, a good addicting game, a funny story many ideas are still out there. Create gossip or a buzz. Many movies are promoted by using scandals and gossips to make them more popular. Remember the movie “The Blair Witch Project”?

Many big companies have tried viral marketing and have had many success stories with it. A classic example is Microsoft’s Hotmail. They were the first known big company to utilize the scheme and it has worked wonders for them.

Now it’s your turn to use viral marketing to work wonders for you. Act now and reap the benefits Viral Marketing will provide for you and your sales figures.

Make the Leap to Home Business Success

Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
http://www.PlugInProfitSite.com/main-24492/freesetup.html

Before you can have a successful home based business, you must first possess 3 "intangibles." These are things that must come from WITHIN you.

Intangible 1 :

First, you must have a strong WHY.

Why MUST you have a successful home business? What is driving you? What is it that you CAN'T have in your life anymore and/or what is it that you absolutely MUST HAVE now?

For me, I couldn't stand working 12+ hours a day anymore and missing the experience of my children growing up. I also absolutely HAD TO HAVE the freedom of being able to control my life and finances through a little box (laptop computer) that I could carry with me anywhere in the world and not be tied to anyone's time pressures or demands but my own. That was my carrot and my stick. I felt a great pain deep in my gut of missing out on my children's lives and the incredible freedom that succeeding in a home based business would provide for me. I found my why. You MUST find yours.

Intangible 2 :

You must BELIEVE that it is possible.

If you don't believe that it's POSSIBLE for you to have a successful home based business or make your living from home, you won't. It's that simple.

For me, figuring out that it was possible was just a matter of realizing that many other people were ALREADY making great money working from home. If they could do it, I could too. It would just be a matter of figuring out what those people were doing and then adapting it to my situation.

There is no shortage of undeniable PROOF that people (millions of them) are making money working from home. Just get online and do some research and you'll find countless testimonials and stories of REAL PEOPLE making real money on the Internet. Or head to your local bookstore and you'll find the same documented evidence of this fact. Truth is, it's getting easier and easier to make money with your own home based business.

I've always said that "affiliate marketing" (a simple way to make money from home) is the job of the future. In the old days, you had to go to a potential employer, apply for the position and hope for the best. Now you can simply go to any company you want, fill out their affiliate application and start work immediately. Affiliates are the new working class. In fact, making money with affiliate programs or making your living on the Internet is WAY MORE than possible. It is pretty much (or will be soon enough) unavoidable now. Affiliate marketing is the "job" of the future that's already here TODAY.

Intangible 3 :

You must be willing to MAKE THE LEAP.

Ready, FIRE, then aim... This is the operating philosophy you MUST adopt to succeed with a home based business.

That's backwards for most people who like to aim before they fire. The fact is that home based business success is a moving target... The only thing constant about it is change. You need to stop analyzing the game and simply jump into it. You can't learn from the outside... You have to be *IN THE RING* to truly understand and profit from it. In fact, this is a business where you can truly be earning WHILE you're still learning...

The lesson here is that you will never really be READY to start a home based business. You simply have to start one. It's like having children... You're never really ready, but when it happens you adapt and grow and therefore you succeed. This is what I call: "Making the Leap"!

The good news is that the cost of failure with having your own home based business is very small. In the "brick and mortar" world you need to evaluate things very carefully before you decide to open up a business. It's almost always necessary to invest thousands of dollars to get an offline business off the ground. However, on the Internet you can often start a successful business for less than $100.

The Plug-In Profit Site is a great example of this where you can get your own money-making site setup free within 24 hours:
http://www.PlugInProfitSite.com/main-24492/freesetup.html

You simply need get IN THE GAME... Each moment that you stay "out there," you're wasting valuable time that you could be learning and skills necessary to build a successful home based business. In fact, if you're not in the game yet, you're ALREADY behind the times... Make the leap to starting and building a successful home business TODAY!
