(Photo courtesy of the Aspen Institute)

The Henry Crown Fellowship Program of the Aspen Institute aims to develop a new generation of values-centered leaders walking in the footsteps of Henry Crown (1896-1990), a Chicago-based industrialist who exemplified the true meaning of community-spirited leadership in his legendary life and career dedicated to honor, integrity, industry and philanthropy. Henry Crown, as part of his philanthropic pursuits in his days, was said to have given away sums amounting to nine-figures in value even before he turned 79.

10 Effective Ways To Reduce Your Business Costs

Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy
http://www.PlugInProfitSite.com/main-20249

1. Barter
If you have a business you should be bartering goods and services with other businesses. You should try to trade for something before you buy it. Barter deals usually require little or no money.

2. Network
Try networking your business with other businesses. You could trade leads or mailing lists. This will cutdown on your marketing and advertising costs. You may also try bartering goods and services with them.

3. Wholesale/Bulk
You'll save money buying your business supplies in bulk quantities. You could get a membership at awholesale warehouse or buy them through a mail order wholesaler. Buy the supplies you are alwaysrunning out of.

4. Free Stuff
You should try visiting the thousands of freebie sites on the internet before buying your business supplies. You can find free software, graphics, backgrounds, online business services etc.

5. Borrow/Rent
Have you ever purchased business equipment you only needed for a small period of time? You couldhave just borrowed the equipment from someone else or rented the equipment from a "rent-all" store.

6. Online/Offline
AuctionsYou can find lower prices on business supplies and equipment at online and offline auctions. I'm not saying all the time, but before you go pay retail for these items try bidding on them first.

7. Plan Ahead
Make a list of business supplies or equipment you'll need in the future. Keep an eye out for stores thathave big sales. Purchase the supplies when they go on sale before you need them.

8. Used Stuff
If your business equipment and supplies don't need to be new, buy them used. You can find used itemsat yard and garage sales, used stores, used stuff for sale message boards and newsgroups etc.

9. Negotiate
You should always try negotiate a lower price for any business equipment or supplies. It doesn't hurtto try. Pretend you are talking to a salesman at a car lot.

10. Search
You can always be searching for new suppliers for your business supplies and equipment. Look forsuppliers with lower prices and better quality. Don't just be satisfied with a few.

25 Goals to Accomplish in Life

By Alvin T. TabaƱag, RFP
Author of “Kaya Mo, Pinoy! 12 Steps to Build Wealth on Any Income”

Want to live a meaningful and exciting life? I’m sure you do. Here’s an activity that you will really value and should help you focus on what you want to achieve in life. If you are married, do this individually first then compare your list with your spouse and see which items you can combine and pursue as a couple or family.

Go to a nice, quiet place where you can daydream and talk to yourself. Bring a pen and paper. Once you’re settled and relaxed dream about the future. What do you want to be and what do you want to accomplish in your lifetime? List the things that your heart desires; things that mean a lot to you. It can be anything and it doesn’t have to be financial in nature. But it should be something that is not easy to accomplish and may take years or a lifetime to complete. Here are some of the usual goals:

- build my dream house
- buy my own car
- own a farm
- raise a family
- exercise regularly
- travel abroad
- learn to play the piano, saxophone or violin
- earn a master’s or doctor’s degree
- establish a multi-million business
- retire with P10M

… and some that are not so common:

- put-up a foundation
- write & publish a book
- climb to the top of Mt. Apo or Mt. Everest
- master a martial art
- run the marathon
- visit all provinces of the Philippines
- run for Congressman, Senator, VP or President
- walk or run across the Philippines
- set foot on Earth’s 7 continents
- participate in a triathlon
- snow ski
- sky dive & scuba dive
- pilot a plane
- act in a movie
- qualify in Pinoy Idol, Survivor or Pinoy Big Brother
- live to 100 years old

You get the idea. You don’t have to complete the list in one sitting because your dreams and aspirations change over time. (It’s been 10 years and I haven’t completed my list yet; I’m still at number 21). Make sure you include time limits in your list and make it as detailed as possible (include amount of money required if applicable). Once or twice a year review and update your list to see how you are doing. You can delete and replace a goal when there’s little chance that you can still accomplish it. Most, if not all, of your activities during your lifetime will revolve around the items in your list. This list is essentially your life and by the time you retire you will be able to look back and say, “yeah, it has been a good life.” (I sure wish you don't get to remark, "pambihira, halos wala akong na-accomplish! ")

ENTREPLINK PHILIPPINES Gathering at HanWok Chinese Cuisine in Blue Wave Mall

(The rains couldn't stop these guys from attending)

The past few days found most of Metro Manila drenched in rainwater with some even stranded on the road due to flash floods and heavy downpour. I was hoping and praying that Saturday be spared since there were several members and guests who have emailed or texted their intention to join the Enjoyable Get-Together at Han Wok. The Lord has other plans though and decided to continue blessing us with rains.

Despite the heavy downpour, members and guests still showed up and we were blessed with 15 participants! The atmosphere had a certain dreary and sleep-inducing touch to it but everyone got energized from the lively discussions and engaging exchanges of ideas that those present participated in.

The following are the details of what transpired:

a) We started off with the Elevator Sales Pitch, where everyone introduced who they are, their business and the clients they are looking for.

(Entreplinkers introducing their businesses during the Elevator Sales Pitch)

The Participants:
Pid Manlapaz - accounting services - elpidio.manlapaz@yahoo.com
Met Manlapaz - accounting services - wife of Pid
Anna Villanueva - Star Cove resort; homebased perfumes -

Jack Wong - Wong Group of Companies - wongjc@wonggroup.com.ph
Helen Wong - real estate - lenawong111@gmail.com
Peter Mariano - Worldnet Business Center; internet marketing - petermariano@rocketmail.com

b) Featured Presentations : the following individuals gave a more thorough and detailed presentation of their products and services:

b.1) Glen Josef Jumilla (the youngest active Entreplinker at age 19!)

- Glen presented about a project by FederaLand, particularly the Bay Garden Club and Residences located just a few blocks from Han Wok itself.
- Bay Garden features condos with a bi-level dual view, with one side facing Manila Bay and the other side having a grand view of the metropolis skyline.
- Glen is offering an opportunity to earn to all Entreplink members through their Referral Agent program, where you could earn a good percentage just by referring clients who would avail of Federaland's packages

b.2) Genevieve "Viva" Andrada - (an entrepreneur, writer and event specialist, she is a truly vivacious gal!)

- Viva presented about Fashion ART or F*ART for short. Smelly? No! They're promoting Funky Fashionable Finds Fit for Fun Fan Filipinos. After saying that mouthfuls of "F"s, visit their website at http://www.happyfart.com/ and see for yourself the awesome works of art and fashion accessories that they have to offer
- F*ART is also promoting Pinoy artists, designers and their products in their art gallery and product displays. They also have a salon/barber shop on top of the events that Viva can organize. Truly dynamic!

c) Distribution of Kaya Mo Pinoy! 12 Steps to Build Wealth on Any Income by Alvin Tabanag to the early birds from the previous EB.

Unfortunately, not all recipients were present but a considerable number got their share and were asked to send out their comments about the book.

d) Entreplink Matters (presided by Rolly Pagaspas):

d.1) To start off the meeting, Rolly asked the participants what are they expectations or what do they want to have as part of Entreplink. Responses were given and the following stood prominent from among the suggestions:
  • an MLM/Direct Marketing product that Entreplinkers can call their own
  • more NETWORKING EVENTS / Business Opportunities
  • a DISCUSSION FORUM that would give relevant information to entrepreneurs or would be entreprenuers (ex: investments/soruces of income for displaced OFW's)
d.2) Rolly gave a short background about Entreplink Philippines and its main goal, which is to be an online-based business LINK for entrepreneurs. A proposal is then given of creating a special feature fora particular industry and link it to several networks with the goal of achieving business matching. The mechanics are as follows:

MODEL:
Business opportunites exists and are presented between an individual and members of Entreplink. These opportunities are currently made known through emails using an approved email address. Later on, Entreplink will streamline this by adding a user profile that goes together with the ID. This would separate true Entrepreneurs from scammers and spammers.

FOUNDATION:
As part of Entreplink's thrust of becoming an online based LINK for Entrepreneurs for business matchins, particular events for a particular segment will be featured and marketed online. Example marketing durations per segment would be for two months full posting on a NEW Entreplink Philippines website. Subscribers who would avail of the package would have their products and/or services featured in the websites product presentation sections, mini-seminars about their products; and a virtual booth. From there, products and services would be well-presented to Entreplink members and guests which can result to potential business matchings.

The market segments identified are as follows:
  • Property (rental / sale)
  • Retailing ( Food / Non-Food)
  • Health, Beauty and Wellness
  • Marketing Services
  • Financial Services
  • Parts and Accessories
On top of the Special Features section of the new website, there will also be a section for TAGS where members of Entreplink Philippines can be grouped together according to their market segments, post their Business/Contact Info, and where another Entreplink member or guest could simply browse through in search of a particular product and service and find possible BUSINESS MATCHEs with existing members of Entreplink. The TAGS will be posted all-year round as long as the member is active and follows certain guidelines that will be established.

Segments and individual businesses would be LINKED to more than 200+ networks for potential lead generation and prospective clienteles. These LINKS shalll also be shared with Media Partners that we will tie up with.

INFRASTRUCTURE:
Entreplink Philippines now has an office at Worldnet Business Center where the nitty gritty of this project will launch from. What is needed is a name and identify for the new website, plus technical support in the design / construction of the website.

OFFLINE GATHERINGS / EYEBALLS:
With a wide membership reach and geographical base, Entreplink shall be divided into subgroups by location: North, East, West and South. Each group would have face to face meetings, where business matching can be consummated and deals finalized. Each meetings will be structured according to the format that will be established.

d.3) An initial meeting with the CORE group will be held on Thursday at 2pm at the Worldnet Business Center in Makati. Individual emails shalle be sent to the attendees.

e) Entreplinks CASHFLOW 101 Game

(Jason giving pointers about the game)

After lunch, the participants proceeded with the second round of the Cashflow 101 game facilitated by Jason Estimado, this time without a limited time allotment so participants can focus fully on the game. Again, it was a very enlightening experience as everyone present got to know the cashflow and financial principles that Robert Kiyosaki wanted to teach through his books and through this game.

It was another enjoyable session as members tried to get out of the RAT RACE. Finally, through the guidance of Jason, everyone got out of the RAT RACE spearheaded by Jay Menes, who played the role of a teacher. Incidentally, it was some sort of revelation for Jay as he and his partners are finalizing their plans of putting up a new school! Great job Jay!

Due to insistent public demand and the urgency of launching the new Entreplink Projects, the next ENJOYABLE GET-TOGETHER would be on June 13, Saturday 10am to 12nn at Han Wok Blue Wave with another session of Cashflow 101 from 1 to 4pm afterwards.

See you all there and God Bless!

11 Common Investment Mistakes

How do you make your money work for you? One way is by investing your money. Investments are a way to make your money grow through the stock market, investment companies, mutual funds, and retirement accounts. But, while you are looking to invest your hard-earned money in something, don't forget to familiarize yourself with the mistakes that are more commonly made by new investors:

1. Not taking advantage of your 401(k) plan.

Most employers offer a retirement plan for their employees. It can either be used from the first day of employment or there may be a short waiting period (usually 3 to 12 months). Whatever the circumstances, contribute to the plan as soon as you are able. Another advantage of investing in your company's 401(k) is that many companies will match all or a portion of the amount you contribute.

2. Not having a plan.

Whether it is a 401(k) plan, an IRA, or another investment vehicle, go into it with a plan for contributing and how to invest the funds. If you just put your money into it and do nothing else, you have a glorified savings account. Let your age, family responsibilities, and the market determine how you will invest the funds so that you get the highest return possible.

3. Investing too heavily on the risky side.

This is the risk most people associate with investing. Obviously, investing in investments that are too risky could lead to the loss of a person's hard earned money.
4. Investing too heavily on the conservative side.

This is one that most people don't think about. Fear of the market and/or lack of knowledge of investments could cause a person to invest too conservatively. Conservative investing could lead to insufficient returns. Insufficient returns could
mean that a person doesn't accumulate enough money to reach their goals (i.e. retirement)

5. Putting all your eggs in one basket.

There needs to be a good mix of stocks, bonds, and other investment vehicles so maximize your money. Different investment vehicles perform differently depending on economic conditions. Simply investing in one thing limits your money's potential.

6. Falling for get rich quick schemes.

For a while everyone was into those "hot tip" stocks that promised a quick profitable return. Playing with fire like that for too long will result in you getting burned and your money going up in flames.

7. Not knowing when to get out is a potential problem.

For a lucky few, getting to ride the wave of a great stock to high profit is a rush and an
opportunity. The trick is to know when to get out and put your money into something more stable for long-term growth.

8. Too much information can immobilize us.

We don't invest because we are on overload and don't want to make a mistake. The only mistake here is not giving it a try. Use an investment advisor to limit financial mistakes.

9. Trying to invest with other debt.

Before you are free to invest, the money must be freed up to do so. Pay off credit card debt first so that you have the cash to devote to investments. This also ensures a gain. Think about this. If you have a credit card which is charging you 18.99% or higher, you save 18.99% by paying off the balance. Few investments can produce that type of return.

10. Paying too much in commission fees.

When you know what you want to do, ask how much it will cost, before you invest. Shop and compare prices and services just as you would for other products you buy.

11. Not using a professional.

If a person is not feeling well, they go to a professional, i.e. a doctor. It should be the same when dealing with your financial health. Find a professional that can offer recommendations based on your particular circumstances.

10 Habits of Highly Successful Women

(photos courtesy of @LarryPConcepcion)

May 9th, 2009
by Laurie Pawlik-Kienlenes

These 10 habits of highly successful women are practical, easy, and effective — and they’re what “See Jane Soar” is all about! These tips for success range from maintaining your hormonal balance to letting go of the past - and they affect your mind, body, and soul.

First, a quotation from writer Anais Nin: “Dreams pass into the reality of action. From the action stems the dream again; and this interdependence produces the highest form of living.”

Taking action is one of the most important habits of successful women…and so is dreaming. For inspiration and practical advice for succeeding in life after failure or knock-out punches, click on: This is Not the Life I Ordered: 50 Ways to Keep Your Head Above Water When Life Keeps Dragging You Down by Deborah Collins Stephens et al.

10 Habits of Highly Successful Women

1. Maintain your hormonal balance. Are you moody, exhausted, irritable, or sad? Check your hormones. If they’re out of whack, then you’ll struggle to be successful! Make sure you’re getting enough protein and vitamins, and decrease your refined sugars and carbohydrates.

2. Forgive yourself for your mistakes. Highly successful women don’t obsess or feel guilty about past choices or failures. They make mistakes, move on, and apply what they’ve learned to new situations.

3. Connect with who you are. Being a daughter, wife, or mother is one aspect of your
life. It doesn’t define who you are as a woman. To connect with who you are, find and express your authentic self. The more authentic you are, the more appealing you’ll be to others - and to yourself!

4. Avoid energy vampires. Do you feel drained or sad after spending time with a particular friend, coworker, or relative? Limit the time you spend with him or her. Note how you feel after visiting with a certain person; if you feel energized and happy, then you’re in good company. Highly successful women choose their companions wisely.

5. Speak kindly to yourself! If you beat yourself up for being overweight, a “bad” mom, or not exercising enough, you just create a downward spiral. Highly successful women remind themselves of their achievements and successes. They refuse to tell themselves negative things; they accept themselves.

6. Listen to your body. I heard Oprah Winfrey say this about 10 years ago: listen to what your body is telling you. Are you emotionally hungry or physically hungry? Feed yourself properly. Are you sad, furious, or depressed? Follow your body’s cues.

7. Volunteer your time. Find something that takes you out of your comfort zone or that you love to do. You’ll feel great that you’re helping others out - and volunteering directly improves your physical health. Highly successful women step out of their comfort zones and takes risks.

8. Let go of perfectionism. Strive to do your best, but let go of perfectionist tendencies. Accepting that you’re doing the best you can is a habit of highly successful women. Letting go of perfectionism is vitamins and exercise for
the soul!

9. Use your core strengths. Are you a natural mathematician, writer, or party planner? Discover your core strengths by trying different things until you find what fits. To take risks and try new things, take short-term volunteer positions or volunteer for new projects at work or in your community.

10. Take time for yourself. This habit for highly successful women is my favorite: take time to recharge your batteries and refuel your emotional, spiritual, and physical energy. Spend at least a few minutes alone each day - even if you have to lock yourself in the bathroom to do it!

Have a missed a habit of highly successful women- or do you have any comments on any of the above? I welcome your thoughts below!

Why Small Businesses Fail (or Fail to Thrive)

The following is an article by Karyn Greenstreet regarding small businesses and why many have failed. In this article, her example is about a self-employment involving flowers and plants. With Mothers Day so near, this article is very helpful in providing insights to entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs, particularly for mothers venturing into this entrepreneurial world.

(Mothers Day Flowers: Azalea from 1800Flowers.com)

Tammy, a skilled and gifted horticulturist, called me to discuss what she needed to know to start her own florist and landscaping business. She had been in the horticulture industry for 10 years and was incredibly skilled at working with flowers and plants – one of the best. She also had great design skills, as well as good customer service skills. But she had little business management experience and less self-employment experience.

Discovering why small businesses fail was a smart research project for her, as it helped her uncover her own weaknesses and begin to build up some strengths before she invested in becoming self-employed. It’s no secret that a large majority of small businesses fail in the first five years. The question is: Why do they fail and what can I do to prevent problems in my own business?

As we talked, we reviewed some of the common reasons why small businesses fail. Here are 14 top reasons, which might help you to determine why your business isn’t growing and thriving. Some of them are related to learnable business skills; others relate to personal attitudes, habits, or self-sabotaging belief, which are not so easy to change, except through coaching or other self-development work.

1. Mistaking a business for a hobby: Just because you love something doesn’t mean you should convert it into a business. Too often businesses fail because the owner feels their passion is shared by others. Research your business idea and make sure it’s viable.

2. Poor planning: Yes, you must have a business plan. It can be a simple three-page plan or a huge 40-page plan. The point is that you’ve looked at all the aspects of your business and are prepared to handle problems when they arise. Your business plan helps you to focus on your goals and your vision, as well as setting out plans to accomplishing them. And don’t get mellow – revisit and revise your business plan annually.

3. Entrepreneurial excitement: Entrepreneurs often get excited about new ideas, but are unable to determine if they’re "true opportunities" and/or put them into practice. Test every new idea against your business plan and mission statement before deciding whether to undertake it or not, and ask yourself, Do I have the time and skill to implement this?

4. Putting all your eggs in one basket: Too often, small business owners will have just one product, one service or one big client. They cling tight to this one thing because it brings in good revenue. But what if the one thing disappears? Variety and diversification will cushion you against the ebb and flow of business tides.

5. Poor record keeping and financial controls: Yes, you have to keep financial and business records, you have to review your revenue and expense report each month, and you have to file taxes and other business-related filings. If you don’t know how to do these, or don’t want to, get help from someone who does.

6. Lack of experience in running a business or in the industry you’re entering: There are so many hats you have to wear, from marketing and selling in order to run a business effectively. On top of that, you have to understand your industry, the skills required to offer your products and services, and the trends in the industry. If you don’t know about these basic skills, educate yourself. Talk to others who are successfully running their own businesses, talk to industry leaders, get a book, find a website, get a coach, do your homework. And keep increasing your business and industry skills by attending classes or reading new books every year.

7. Poor money management: You need to be able to live for one to two years without income when getting started; often businesses are very slow to get off the ground. Also, you have to create and use a realistic business budget, and not constantly drain the business income on personal spending.

8. Wrong location: If your business runs out of commercial space, you need to make sure that you are convenient to your customers, and near to your suppliers and your employees.

9. Competition: Customers will go where they can find the best products and services. It’s important for you to know who your competition is, what they have to offer, and what makes your own products or services better.

10. Procrastination and poor time management: Putting off tasks that you don’t enjoy will sink your business faster than anything else. You can’t afford to waste time on unimportant tasks while critical tasks pile up. All tasks need to be done; if you don’t like to do them (or don’t want to spend your time doing them), hire someone to do them for you. If your time management and prioritizing skills are rusty, hire a small business coach or take a class to help you.

11. Ineffective marketing: Learn the basics of marketing and make sure that you track the success or failure of each marketing technique you use, then dump those that aren’t working.

12. Ineffective sales techniques: Once you have a potential client, you have to know how to lead them down the sales path. If you don’t understand the basics of selling, get some education on it immediately. If a selling technique doesn’t work, try another one.

13. Poor customer service: Once you have a customer, you have to keep them. There are two key points here – make sure you pay attention to what the customer wants (and how these wants can change over time), and make sure you provide quick return of phone calls and emails, proper billing, win-win problem solving and an overall pleasant demeanor.

14. Entrepreneurial burnout: owning your own business requires a huge investment of time, money, energy and emotion. It’s easy to work long days and forget to take time off. But in the end, this only causes burnout where your motivation and creativity will suffer, and a pessimistic attitude prevails. You’ll find yourself unable to balance your business and personal life, and both will suffer. Schedule self-care time into your work week and be religious about taking time off from your business.

Dunn and Bradstreet recently did a study and determined that “90% of small businesses that fail do so because of a lack of skills and knowledge on the part of the owner.” However, D&B also did a study that showed that over 90% of small businesses were still in business after five years IF they had the help of a Small Business Development Center (SBDC) or other expert assistance. You can find a list of the SBDC in your area here:

As Tammy and I concluded our coaching session, she made a list of the areas where she needed to grow, and created a task plan to get the help she needed. Today she has a thriving business and is happily self-employed. You can do it, too. It just takes a little planning and a close look at both the reasons for your success and where you might need to get a little help.

The South and West EB of Entreplink Philippines at Han Wok Blue Wave

Finally! The May 2 South and West EB minutes.

My apologies to all for the long-delayed narrative of what transpired during the May 2 South and West EB held at Han Wok Blue Wave. Things were really hectic at work as we were beefing up our marketing team and I have to coach and train new blood from my posse.

The first South EB would pale in comparison to what transpired during the May 2 South and West EB. We started promptly at 8AM, had breakfast in between laughs, narratives and puns, and continued till 2pm and no one even noticed that we haven't had lunch yet. Thanks to the generosity of Boss Jack Wong, coffee was free-flowing and the courteous staff of Han Wok Blue Wave did not need any impetus to reach for our cups and refill them with freshly-brewed coffee. The serving of the food was, wow, really BIG in proportions that for the price of P99, each had a heavy breakfast that lasted till noon. No wonder no one complained of getting hungry even when it was already 2pm!

I was the first to arrive at the scene, of course (as I was the one kulitizing everyone), and the Han Wok staff were just setting up the store for the breakfast crowd. Everyone was aware that members of Entreplink Philippines were coming. I was about to order coffee when Rustum Maranan came. I knew he was an Entreplinker as he headed straight for Han Wok. We exchanged pleasantries and after a few minutes, Manolo "John" Santos arrived. Coffee was still brewing but our discussions already started getting warm with the excited exchanges of experiences both as entrepreneurs and as individuals.

A couple came in and started viewing occupants in the place, and I knew for a fact that they were Entreplinkers. As expected, they were indeed members of the forum and they were none other than Lawrence and Gwen Moreno. A few minutes later the man himself, Boss Jack Wong, arrived with his brood of cute-looking children all wearing the same Wong Group of Companies uniform. If our discussions were already hot earlier, with Jack Wong in the picture the discussions almost literally caught fire. And as if fun was not yet enough, Anna Villanueva and her lovely daughter Angelica (oops! I mean "sister", because they really looked like sisters – both gorgeous!) finally arrived and we almost could not finish breakfast from laughing as Jack and DoƱa Anna (as Jack fondly calls her) exchanged jokes and puns and amusing remarks! We were like boisterous drunkards finishing their first case of beer – during breakfast time!

(From Left: Jack's son, Anna's Daughter Angelica, Anna, Pete Mariano,

Our discussions traveled far and wide, and in fact it traveled around the world. Everyone shared their entrepreneurial endeavors, including their past and recent memories about Entreplink Philippines. Jack of course is a franchisee for Han Wok Chinese Cuisine, which is a division for the diverse Wong Group of Companies. Rustum is into wires/cables and accounting services while John was into branded computers and gadgets. Anna owns and operates Star Cove Family Resort in Balayan, Batangas while couples L.A. and Gwen have a Frutas franchise, soft-served ice cream business and is looking into venturing into supplying Cebu lechon! I am a problogger, internet marketer and into business development for the Worldnet Business Center. Soon afterwards, Rolly Pagaspas arrived and added more life to the already lively discussions. He is a professor/consultant for UP and is also the Executive Director for Gabay Foundation.

Topics moved from real estate opportunities in the United States, particularly vacation homes for rent in Florida and in Disney World, to ballpen kleptomaniacs. Jack discussed about swine flu and described a photo he received in the internet about a western child kissing a pig smack in the snout. There was a discussion about the bizarre foods in China and melamine materials in products and how the perpetrators of the melamine-in-milk fiasco in China ended up being executed. There were some minor discussions on current events like Lozada's perjury case and regarding paying of taxes. There were other topics discussed though that I was not able to capture and document, and these would probably fill up pages and pages of website content.

As promised, Jack distributed Han Wok mugs to everyone present, amidst clamor from Anna vehemently asking where Alrey Galang is. As if he sensed our predicament from afar, Boss Alrey sent me an SMS message saying that he will be late. I relayed the message to everyone and no one minded waiting for another hour or so.

(from left: Anna, Pete, John, Jack, Lawrence, Gwen, Alrey Galang, Rustum and Rolly)

Finally, Boss Alrey arrived with daughter Angelica in tow and the first thing she noticed that made her eyes pop wide open was the Hello Kitty ladies' bag DoƱa Anna was using, complete with matching Hello Kitty accessories of course, as she was sporting the same Hello Kitty paraphernalia herself. Everyone's day was made complete as Boss Alrey finally joined us and drank his first cup of Han Wok's coffee.

The arrival of Boss Alrey prompted discussions focusing on Entreplink Philippines itself starting with a little bit of history on how the group started, the people behind the formation of the group, the ups and downs that the group experienced particularly on memberships reaching more than 10,000 members at its peak, now down to a mere 2663 members at the time this EB was set.

The following are what the group discussed during the EB, particularly those relating to Entreplink Philippines:

a) Entreplink Philippines should have a regular Business Opportunity meet where members can share their entrepreneurial endeavors and foster cross-networking and possible joint ventures with other members. Jack is offering FREE use of Han Wok Blue Wave's function room – just pay for the food!

b) Almost everyone is receiving Cashflow training invitations soliciting negative, positive and indifferent reactions from the group. As a response, and also to educate members of Entreplink Philippines on Cashflow 101, the group was planning to initiate an Entreplink-initiated Cashflow session, minus the fees (which can be as exorbitant as P1000 as seen from other forums). All that is required of members would be a minimal amount, which they will use to pay for their own food.

c) Spammers and scammers still abound and all Entreplink members should be wary of such ploy from irresponsible forum members. Calls to re-iterate Do's and Don'ts (House Rules), similar to what Boss Alrey has initiated, should be done and imposed.

d) There is a need to establish the service blueprint of Entreplink Philippines, from a mere forum to a possibly established business organization where professionalism in business transactions and dealings amongst members are well established. According to Boss Alrey, he has no objection to such a move and would just go with the flow that active members want to thread.

d) There is a need to streamline the Entreplink Philippines organization, particularly in putting in order the SEC documentations of the group. In this regard, the group is seeking the blessings of founder Charles Aquino and the rest of the Entreplink Board for this direction that many are willing to take. Should there be a need for a new address, we are offering FREE use of the business address for Worldnet Business Center in Makati and will provide a cubicle and own local number for Entreplink Philippines!

e) A core group should be identified who are willing to offer their time, skills and resources to better serve the majority of members. A framework in this regard will be formulated by our expert Rolly, including proper documentations to handle conflict of interest and to establish procedures on how to delineate business/hidden agenda from genuine help. Additional moderators to assist Boss Alrey should also be identified.

f) A website dedicated for Entreplink Philippines should be established, where members can download resources for entrepreneurs and business people to help them in their endeavors. Committees should also be established where members, particularly those who are lurking about and are just waiting for the right opportunity. This would be the best time for you all to come out! Knowing the diversity of each entrepreneur's endeavors, these committees should be sub-divided according to trade or industry.

g) Again, regular meetings should be established to get the ball rolling once again. Each meeting will be a Business Opportunity meet, as we will try to get resource persons to provide mini-talks on tools, trends, technologies and other knowledge that will be a great source of information for entrepreneurs. The next meeting will be on May 23, 11pm at Han Wok Blue Wave. Para matikman naman natin yung lunch menu ng Han Wok!

h) Suggestions for a Grand EB were also put forward. Where? At DoƱa Anna's Starcove Resort of course! Jack will throw in the use of his Tourist Buses exclusively for Entreplink members!

Exploring New Markets through Online Classifieds

The recent changes in economies that have plagued the residents of the United States have also affected the rest of the world. Sales in every market segment have dropped tremendously and businesses that are in the habit of just waiting for customers to come to their doorsteps have long closed shop. There are those, however, who still thrive in this economy by utilizing the power of online classifieds in reaching new markets and opening doors for new prospects and clients.

Unless a company makes a proactive move and apply guerilla-marketing tactics in reaching new markets at minimal cost, they will not survive this current economic situation. These companies must learn how to project or present their products and services to a wider customer base by opening new markets, otherwise sales will remain relatively low. Since the trend in consumer shopping is to go online, products that are presented in a classified and organized manner can help providers close that successful deal.

In a recent study by marketing researchers, already 90 percent of newspapers in the country have their own affiliated websites, with some dailies having more than one site. This study showed that in 80 markets with an online presence, newspapers with online sites are getting a lion's share of online traffic for news, information, and classified listings. These online newspapers have a significant advantage over other websites that half of the country's Top 20 Websites are online dailies and affiliated classified sites.

Harnessing the power of online classifieds is the way to go in this uncertain state of the economy. Companies trying to keep up and survive should learn how to thread this path and open new roads and highways to more profitable markets and opportunities.

Take Advantage of Locally-based Online Classifieds and Directories

The first step in using online classifieds and directories in finding new markets is to take advantage of affiliated websites from local newspapers and magazines. Unlike the line per line charging in printed newspapers, online classifieds do not charge as such and ads would be posted longer and would reach a wider readership within your community. People looking for products or services have the logical tendency of looking for what they need within their own communities and they would eventually resort to a local source of information like newspapers and their affilianted where they are familiar and can identify with.

Take Advantage of Free Classified Ad Sites

Although paid advertising has a certain level of effectiveness in getting targetted customers, utilizing free classifieds can also give you some marketing advantages. There are several classified listings available in the Internet that offer free advertising slots where you can place your ad copy, graphics and links. You can take this advantage by posting on multiple sites and reach a wider market and customer base. Make this a daily habit and you will surely bring in the targetted traffic and prospects that you need.

Take Advantage of Low Cost Internet Marketing Packages

Several people in the Internet are raking in profits at six to seven figures and they do this by selling anything from digital products, physical products, information, and affiliate programs. These people make use of internet marketing software that will post their ads automatically to classified ad directories. The only problem in using such software is the risk of being banned from these sites due to the automatic postings, which they deemed tantamount to spamming.

To utilize similar software, choose low cost software where you can post ads semi-automatically and avoid the risk of being banned as a spammer. Choose a system that will let you post an unlimited number of classified ads at high traffic sites and expose your products or services to millions across the Internet.

Take Advantage of Opening New Doors to an International Market

Online classifieds is accessible for viewing by anyone around the world unlike printed newspapers and magazines that are usually local in nature and have a limited number of readerships. This feature can open your business to the International market and help your business achieve new heights that would not be possible with a local clientele.

Classified advertising is not a new concept and has been used by marketers and companies for several years using printed newspapers and magazines. With the advent of online classifieds, advertising and marketing your products or services has never been much easier, more affordable and more effective. Open new doors and reach unprecedented market opportunities using online classifieds.

Traffic Exchange Secrets - Part 2

How Traffic Exchanges Work

Different Traffic Exchanges work in different ways. In general though they all offer a free or paid version. Depending on which option you choose you will be eligible to receive a certain number of credits when you surf other member’s sites and when you refer people who join.

Almost all of them also allow you to build a downline of members you’ve referred. Often your downline can extend several levels deep so that as people you refer in turn refer others, you continue to gain more and more credits.

Some Traffic Exchanges also pay out cash incentives when the people in your downline upgrade their membership or purchase other forms of advertising that the Traffic Exchange offers such as banner ads. This gives you several ways to benefit from participating in the Traffic Exchange.

When deciding which Traffic Exchange program to join, there are several features to consider:

Credit Ratio – All Traffic Exchanges allow you to earn credits in exchange for viewing other member’s web pages. Look for one that provides a good return on the number of credits you receive for each page you view.

Time Limits – When surfing for credits, most traffic exchanges require you to view a site for a minimum amount of time before you earn a credit. This is normally somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds. The longer you have to view a page means the slower you can surf, but it also means longer that potential customers view your pages.

Anti Cheat Mechanisms – To ensure that a real person is viewing your web site most Traffic Exchanges use anti cheating mechanisms. This usually means that instead of clicking a “Next Site" button you have to click on a specific graphic such as a number, letter, picture or coloured icon from a selection of a few, to proceed to the next site. Repeated failure to do this correctly means account suspension or termination. Look for a Traffic Exchange with a system like this to ensure that your credits are not wasted on cheaters who never view your page.

Referrals – This is the fastest way to build up your credits. Most Traffic Exchanges provide you with referral pages and banners. You can use these materials to recruit your downline. When someone signs up from your promotional web page or banner they are placed in your downline.

Paid/Pro Memberships – Most Traffic Exchanges offer paid memberships as well as free memberships. Normally a paid membership earns you privileges such as an allocation of credits per month plus an increased number of credits for your own surfing and the surfing of your downline. Most exchanges also allow you to purchase extra credits.

Bonuses – Many Traffic Exchanges will give you bonus credits for signing up, for surfing a certain number of pages, or for winning competitions or sweepstakes. Look for ones that provide added bonuses and accumulate credits even faster!

On the next post we'll discuss the Traffic Exchanges I used for my marketing campaigns.
